Description

Another Touhou fanart.

I've been working on this since the going to kumoricon, if only I had more time to finish it earilier, then it woiuld have been slightly better. To put off something for a long time and try to finish it is so hard :(

It was about 90% complete before the "magic" was gone. Hence the crappy background :(

Oh, and one more thing, the edge of her hair that goes behind the ghost should also be seen through it. Oh and one more inconsistency, the same part of the ghost (the head of it if you will) that is opaque to her hand, is transparent to the green background image. I just noticed that. Yeah that's even worse. the more inconsistencies in an image the worse. This means I'll have to drop my rating down a notch. Now your picture is only the 3rd best I've seen of Youmu on Deviant Art.

Let me give you a tip. Despite the fact transparency is an advanced technique, and looks good, it only looks good when it's done consistently for the object which is supposed to be transparent. It's not like 100% use of transparency on an object is better than 50%, 50 is better than 0. Not that AT ALL! Because 50% use of such an effect on an object leaves that object looking "patchy". 50% use of transparency is about the worst you could do. That's right 0% (not bothering at all with transparency) is actually better than a half done job. Of course 100% use (applying transparency to the entirety of the object in question) is the best as it shows that you as an artist have mastery over the transparency technique. So if you have the ability, I HIGHLY recommend that you go for 100% use of transparency with that ghost. However if you lack that specific skill, then I recommend you make the ghost all white (opaque) so it doesn't look like a "half done job" (which unfortunately is exactly what it looks like now, a half done job).
